Construction Coming to an End.

The last few weeks the contractor has been trying to get as much of the project completed as possible prior to the construction season ending. The cold weather we experienced over the past few weeks came a little sooner than expected. Nonetheless, all the work anticipated to be completed was done.

The concrete curb & gutter and first layer of asphalt pavement was completed on Westview Road from the cul-de-sac to Glenarye Drive prior to the Thanksgiving Holiday.

The asphalt pavement surface layer was installed on Central Road, Glendale Drive, and Westview Road. A temporary asphalt surface layer was installed along Glenayre Drive at Glenview. The restoration of asphalt driveways was also completed.

Other work completed through the week included landscape grading and installation of topsoil, pouring benches in manholes, installing chimney seals in manholes, removing debris from catch basins and inlets, adjusting fire hydrant elevations, general site clean-up, and removing equipment from job site. The contractor also installed a strip of erosion control blanket approximately 3 feet wide adjacent to the concrete curb & gutter where the sod will not be installed this year. This is be prevent washout of the topsoil on the roadway. The concrete contractor also applied a protective coating on the concrete curb & gutter, driveways, and sidewalks.

Anticipated work to be completed this construction season includes the following:
·         Internal Televising of storm and sanitary sewers.
·         Re-Install street signs.
·         Pavement markings.
·         Site clean-up.

Work to be completed in Spring of 2015 (As part of Phase I Improvements):
·         Reconstruction of Glenayre Drive from Glenview Road to Westview Road including concrete curb & gutter, new aggregate base course, asphalt pavement, and landscape restoration
·         Sod restoration not completed this year.

Phase II Improvement along Glenayre Drive, Glenridge Drive, and Glen Court will be bid during the Spring of 2015 with construction to begin in the spring or summer of 2015.

Thank you again for all your patience and understanding through this construction season. It was greatly appreciated.

Roadway Reconstruction On-Going along Westview Road. Landscape Restoration On-Going.

Following the installation of the concrete curb & gutter the week of November 3rd, the contractor continued with the roadway reconstruction of Glendale Drive from Central Road to Westview Road.

Last week, the first layer of asphalt pavement was installed along the remaining portions of Central Road and Glendale Drive from Central Road to Westview Road.

The contractor also continued with landscape grading, installing topsoil, and laying sod along Central Road and Glendale Drive The contractor will continue with landscape restoration this week with the hopes of having all the sod installed by the end of the week in this area. The sod will be evaluated again in the spring to ensure a healthy stand of grass is established and repair any areas that have settled.

By the end of this week, the contractor is anticipating to have all of the underground utility work completed associated with this project. There are only a few minor items remaining to be completed.

The contractor also started the roadway reconstruction process along Westview Road from the west end towards Glenayre Drive.

This week, the schedule includes concrete curb & gutter being installed along Westview Road on Monday or Tuesday, November 17th or 18th. The contractor will continue with the roadway grading following the concrete curb & gutter installation. The first layer of asphalt pavement is currently scheduled for the end of this week or beginning of the week of November 24th. It is anticipated the first layer of asphalt will be installed along Westview Road prior to the Thanksgiving Holiday.

The current schedule includes installing the final asphalt surface layer on all roadways with concrete curb & gutter that have been previously paved with the first layer of asphalt. This work is scheduled for the first week of December.

As evident by the falling temperatures, the construction season is coming to an end. The contractor is committed to getting as much work completed this year as possible and weather permits. We are still evaluating the extents of the work that will be completed. Whatever roadway reconstruction is not completed this year, a temporary asphalt surface will be installed for easier travel and snow-plowing operations. The roadway improvements will then be completed in 2015 and the temporary asphalt will remain in place until the roadway is reconstructed.

Thank you again for all your patience and understanding throughout the entire construction process, it has been greatly appreciated. We do understand what a huge inconvenience living in and around a construction site can be. We hope you are satisfied with the end result as the asphalt pavement and landscape restoration is being completed.

We understand there are a significant amount of private improvements within the public right-of-way including boulders, paver blocks, irrigation systems, invisible dog fences, and driveways constructed of brick pavers, stamped concrete, or other specialty materials.  We encourage you to please contact either the on-site project representative, Chris Baumann, at cbaumann@baxterwoodman.com or the Village Project Manager, Russ Jensen at 847-904-4418 or rjensen@glenview.il.us at your earliest convenience to discuss relocating or removing these improvements prior the construction work beginning.

The start of the major construction work is coming up soon after many years of planning. We ask for your patience and understanding during the construction phase due to the many inconveniences that you will experience over the coming months. We will do our best to minimize these inconveniences to the greatest extent possible and keep you updated on the progress of the project.

Construction Activity will begin to Pick-Up in the Next Few Weeks.

On May 6th, the Village Board awarded a construction contract to DiMeo Brothers, Inc. to complete the Glenayre Park, Phase I Reconstruction project to be completed in 2014.

This past week had a preconstruction meeting with the contractor, sub-contractors, Village staff, and utility companies with facilities within the area.

ComEd, the electric company in the area, is anticipated to begin performing relocations of their existing facilities that in conflict with the proposed improvements on June 2nd and be completed by the end of June.

AT&T, the telephone company in the area, has some minor relocation work to be completed and is anticipated to be completed at the same time as the Glenayre Park underground utility work.

NICOR, the gas company in the area, is planning to replace all gas mainline piping and services to individual homes. This process will take several months and will be perform in conjunction with a majority of the underground utility work. NICOR is anticipated to begin their work on June 16th.

DiMeo Brothers, the general contractor for the project, and the contractor that will be performing a majority of the work in the area is anticipating to begin installing storm sewer along Central Road and will likely start around Monday, June 23rd.

For the next few weeks you will see construction activity in the neighborhood between the work being performed by the utility companies and the general contractor beginning preparation work for starting the storm sewer improvements.  Some of these tasks will include project stake-out and JULIE locates.  You will begin to see wooden stakes indicating locations of proposed improvements.  You will also see existing utilities marked out with paint and flags. In order to not delay the project and cause unnecessary damages to the utilities, we request that you, and your landscaper, do not disturb these markings and stakes to the best of your ability.

We understand many residents have private improvements on the public right-of-way that may be disturbed due to the improvements in the area. These include electric dog fences, irrigation systems, boulders, brick paver driveways, landscaping, etc. If you would like your private contractor to relocate or remove some of these private improvements prior to the work starting, please contact Chris Baumann at cbaumann@baxterwoodman.com to coordinate the limits of the improvement within the public right-of-way.  This way you can accurately determine and remove only the improvements in conflict.  NOTE: All improvements will be made within the Public Right-of-Way, there will be no improvements on private property unless prior arrangements or easements have been granted in writing.

We understand this will be a long construction season for all residents in the area. We will do our best to ensure the project goes as smoothly as possible and that you are inconvenienced as least as possible.  There will be travel delays, dirt, dust, and general inconveniences associated with a project of this magnitude.  We do appreciate you patience now and throughout the entire construction process.
